Happy New Year box office collection: Shah Rukh Khan’s film beats Aamir Khan’s Dhoom 3, collects Rs 44.97 crore on day 1!

Happy New Year opened to a phenomenal response both at multiplex and single screens across India. The Farah Khan directorial, which has Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani, Sonu Sood and Vivaan Shah was bound to create history with the kind of occupancy it witnessed right from the first show till the last show yesterday (October 24).

HNY has clocked record-breaking collections on Day 1 and has made a whopping business of over Rs 44.97 crore, thus shattering all previous records attained by any Bollywood film. The film collected Rs 42.62 crore in Hindi, Telugu made Rs 1.43 crore and Tamil version made Rs 0.92 crore. The total domestic collection of the film stands at Rs 44.97 crore.

Though the critics have rated the film averagely, the word of mouth publicity is strong. The film saw nearly 100 % occupancy at most of cinema houses yesterday. A bigger and better weekend is certainly on cards.

Earlier, Aamir Khan’s Dhoom 3 held the highest opening day collections of Rs 36 Crore, followed by SRK’s Chennai Express, which made Rs 33.10 crore.
